Have you taken care of your body today ?

What is massage therapy and when is it appropriate to seek out its benefits?

Massage therapy encompasses a variety of complimentary manual therapy techniques, which are administered based on a holistic consideration of the individual. In addition, these techniques are guided by a series of educational interventions.

As a whole, this discipline assesses the texture and quality of the soft tissue (skin and muscles) and of the joints of the body (tendons, ligaments, capsules). This is done in order to treat and prevent; injuries, pain and other physiological dysfunctions related to poor tissue health.

The objectives of massage therapy are numerous:

  • Optimize, maintain, enhance or readapt physiological functions
  • Alleviate pain and create movement
  • Promote global health

Massage therapy techniques

Our massages are given on a massage therapy table, in a setting, which promotes complete relaxation. You may chose to receive your massage while listening to the music of your choice, while in silence or while chatting with your massage therapist.
We use ointments and mild gels, which are nut free in order to prevent allergic reactions.

Four massage therapy techniques are available:

  • Deep tissue massage
  • Swedish massage
  • Peri-articular work
  • Trigger point technique (to come in March 2018)

Therapeutic massage

As its name suggest, this massage therapy technique targets the various layers of muscles and tissues. Deep tissue massage targets specific areas of tension thereby addressing the source of pain. This type of massage is especially efficient for chronic tension and also for areas of the body, which are under constant strain such as the forearms, the upper, mid and low back, the shoulders and the legs. In a nutshell, all the body may benefit from deep tissue massage. The maneuvers of this style of massage are slow and the pressure exerted is deeper and more concentrated (direct) than a traditional massage. This type of work on the deep tissue enables the practitioner to alleviate pain and restore proper movement patterns.

Deep tissue massage greatly benefits the following ailments:

  • Chronic pain and persistent pain following an injury
  • Limited mobility
  • Postural constraints
  • Muscle tension and spasms
  • Arthritic type pain

This type of massage is offered in sessions of 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 75 minutes or 90 minutes.

Therapeutic and relaxation massage

This massage therapy technique is used to provide extensive muscle relaxation and to increase or restore range of motion. The beneficial effects of this massage can be felt on a wide scale of the muscular, skeletal and physiological systems, which in turn provides global wellness to the recipient.

Swedish massage is recommended for:

  • Improving circulation
  • Stress reduction
  • Alleviating muscle tension
  • Improving the elasticity of the skin

This type of massage is offered in sessions of 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 75 minutes or 90 minutes.

Is performed on floor mats

This practice entails inducing movements at one or many joints. The person who is receiving the massage remains in a passive and relaxed state, this enables the massage therapist to bring the patient’s body into its full range of motion. These mobilizations are combined with traditional massage and periods of relaxation. They aid to speed up recovery and allow a quicker return to physical activity.

Recommended for:

  • Stiff muscles and joints
  • Loss of mobility
  • Excessive sedentary state
  • Prolonged immobilization
  • Restoring posture
  • Hypertonic muscles

Peri-articular work is offered in sessions of 60 or 90 minutes.
Clothing attire: Comfortable sports clothes, which facilitate movements of the body, are recommended.

Specialized manual therapy

This practice requires a deep understanding of the physiology of the nervous system, of its functions on the muscular and skeletal system, of biomechanics and of kinesiology. Trigger point technique consists of applying static and consistent pressure on precise points on the muscle lining in order to alleviate pain. This technique is used to rebalance the central nervous system. In a healthy individual, the nerves transmit a slow signal to the bodily tissues it controls. This enables movements, functions and thoughts to occur. Injuries, traumas, postural restrictions and sustained stress accelerate the nerve conduction velocity and may disrupt the equilibrium of the body thereby rendering it vulnerable. Pain and other physiological dysfunctions may result from this type of nerve imbalance.
